While I don't follow OpenSER developments either, I'll just point out that SER 2.0 has been released (too late for Lenny unfortunately) and I've re-worked the Debian packaging extensively. It can probably be uploaded soon but some testing would be helpful, so if you want to help, grab it from svn and have fun.
