I still find it confusing that a user who is marked both Deaf *and* Mute
with no other sources playing might have anything to echo cancel!
(Assuming echo-cancellation is the CPU heavy part of the problem, and
ambient noise handling is the low-computation part).

For long-range ambient noise cancellation/background gain control, I do
expect that this could probably be monitored/sampled in a more power-
efficient way (10% duty-cycle would likely to be more than sufficient
until the short-range stuff kicks in during actual local vox).
