[Pkg-zfsonlinux-devel] What more can be done to get ZFS into Debian?

[Adding FTP team]

Hi,

For the discussion in this thread, I think most of them have been
discussed for times:

1. Building binary packages are possible, there are two additional
targets in d/rules:
  * override_dh_binary-modules
  * override_dh_binary-modules-udeb
2. Installer support is not possible if spl/zfs are not built from
src:linux. d-i team don't accept out-of-tree kernel modules
3. Code for installer support was there, and d-i team once merged the
patchset but later dropped because of kernel modules.
4. We don't intend to support ZFS as rootfs unless kernel team do the
same like Ubuntu does.
5. I'm involved with Ubuntu's ZFS thing, syncing two sides is not a problem.
6. Since Ubuntu is taking a more aggressive approach, I doubt current
DPL's claim that holding things back for asking Oracle to dual licensing
is still valid.
7. If really really needed I would propose a GR (which I don't want to
bother). This very issue does not belong to Technical Committee
because it's not technical but political.

The only thing we need for moving forward is accepting those packages
into archive. If there are problems please give feedback more
promptly, we don't want to wait for months for a single nitpicking
somewhere, but that's what happened in the past two years.

Best,
Aron
