very nice to know.
Does that create a binary-only package that satisfies all
the required deps for the other zfs packages?

I just tried this with:
dpkg-buildpackage --target override_dh_binary-modules -b -us -uc
the build failed with:
dpkg-buildpackage: source package zfs-linux
dpkg-buildpackage: source version 0.6.5.6-1
dpkg-buildpackage: source distribution unstable
.
.
.
checking spl source directory... /usr/src/spl-0.6.5.6
checking spl build directory... Not found
configure: error:
*** Please make sure the kmod spl devel <kernel> package for your
*** distribution is installed then try again. If that fails you
*** can specify the location of the spl objects with the
*** '--with-spl-obj=PATH' option.
debian/rules:158: recipe for target 'override_dh_configure_modules_stamp' failed
make: *** [override_dh_configure_modules_stamp] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules override_dh_binary-modules gave error exit status 2
is there some specific (documented??) procedure to follow to make this work?
