Little update: while doing other tests (that resulted in another bug
report #478880...), I could successfully copy and paste the data source
item.  Well, I didn't follow the same exact sequence of operations, as
described in the present bug report, but anyway, I could perform the
operation that previously led to a segfault or a memory corruption
issue.

Maybe the bug shows up only sometimes, rather than always...
Trying the above described procedure over and over again could possibly
help in reproducing the bug.
Varun, how many times did you try the procedure?
