Hi!,
I am not familiar with autopkgtest. But reading
https://people.debian.org/~mpitt/autopkgtest/README.package-tests.html the
$AUTOPKGTEST_TMP variable start empty and I think that we have to copy the
test code there. something like here:
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/modules/sphinx/blob/debian/master/debian/tests/python-sphinx#L3
If this sound correct, tonight I will prepare a MR.
