I agree with Steffen.  The files say:

   GPL (either version 1, or at your option, any later version)
   or "something else"

which is no conflict to GPL-2.

Do we really need to contact upstream about this since as far as I
understood CRAN the License mentioned in DESCRIPTION is the valid
license statement.
