[wohler at olgas:509]$ sudo aptitude remove resolvconf
[wohler at olgas:512]$ sudo /etc/init.d/resolvconf start
  Setting up resolvconf...run-parts: /etc/resolvconf/update.d/libc
  exited with return code 1

No other package is holding /etc/init.d/resolvconf:

[wohler at olgas:513]$ dpkg --search /etc/init.d/resolvconf
  resolvconf: /etc/init.d/resolvconf

It appears the problem is that removing resolvconf doesn't remove

Does that help?
