[sane-devel] Error message: No devices available

The SCSI adapter and scanner were detected by the system ...

Is SCSI generic available (modprobe sg)? Maybe permission problems
with /dev/sg? (try scanimage -L as root)? Does "sane-find-scanner"
find your scanner?
