That's it exactly under gphoto2 it looks like "/" no other folder options.

Should I change gphoto2.conf to be topfolder=/ ?

Yeah I realised that the use of sane was to get around the permissions problem
with USB devices, but your options look promising as well.  The other reasoning
behind sane was that my wife/daughter could access the scanner and camera through
a single interface (sanetwain for windows).
