[sane-devel] loosing contact to scanner (warmup problem?)

It seems that this is either a Linux kernel bug or a scanner problem. Can you 
try to unload your usb driver module (usb-uhci, usb-ohci or similar)? Does it 
make any difference if you unplug and replug the USB cable?
