[sane-devel] please help 2940UW and Scanjet 4c

I cannot seem to get this configuration to work.  The lowest that I can set 
the max transfer rate is 10.  Anyhow, sane-find-scanner does find the scanner, 
once anyway.  If I try to run scanimage -L it just hangs, no output.  Try 
sane-find-scanner again and it fails on all devices.  Xsane stays on finding 
scanner dialog for five minutes and then says "no devices" What is going on?

Hardware:
adaptec 2940uw
hp scanjet 4c
Redhat 7.3
