Huh? I just scanned an image with the ma1509 backend, saved it with
xsane 0.90 to a .tiff file and could open it with xpaint (2.6.2)
without problems. Same with the test backend. That's with default
settings (Jpeg compression). Color mode, 8 bit/color. xpaint doesn't
seem to be able to display 16 bit images.

Version 5.4.4.5: no problems with 8 and 16 bit modes.

Maybe the bug occurs only sometimes and I had luck? However I have
never noticed any problems.

Maybe it's a problem with libtiff?
