Different backend (snapscan vs. plustek) so I don't think it's related.

I have no idea why it fails but it's not libusb. You are using the
kernel scanner driver, see the first line of the log. You could try
libusb (rmmod scanner) instead.

Standard comments:
- Make sure that your scanner is not confused by earlier tests
  (unplug/replug it)
- diable everything but snapscan in dll.conf
