Does anyone have a Plustek parallel port scanner working on Gentoo, or
can you see my problem?I am running plustek-module-0_40_17, xsane-0.86,
sane-backends-1.0.9 and sane-frontends-1.0.9. parport, parport_pc and
pt-drv load without errors. BIOS reports that the parallel port is EPP
IRQ 7 and port=0x378. Here are the pertinent lines from
/etc/modules.d/aliases and thus /etc/modules conf:

alias char-major-40 pt_drv
       pre-install pt_drv modprobe -k parport
       options pt_drv lampoff=180 warmup=15 port=0x378 lOffonEnd=0
       mov=0 slowIO=0

I've edited /etc/sane.d/dll.conf to containn only one line: "plustek"

from dmesg:

pt_drv : driver version 0.40-18
pt_drv0: 9636T/12000T found on port 0x0378
pt_drv0: Lamp-Timer set to 180 seconds.
pt_drv0: WarmUp period set to 15 seconds.
pt_drv0: Lamp untouched on driver unload.
devfs_mk_dir(scanner): using old entry in dir: c2519640 ""
pt_drv : driver version 0.40-18
pt_drv0: 9636T/12000T found on port 0x0378
pt_drv0: Lamp-Timer set to 180 seconds.
pt_drv0: WarmUp period set to 15 seconds.
pt_drv0: Lamp untouched on driver unload

BUT, # scanimage -L returns:

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

AND: # scanimage --device-name=plustek:/dev/pt_drv
scanimage: open of device plustek:/dev/pt_drv failed: Error during
device I/O

Though, as I said above BIOS reports the parallel port is assigned irq
7,:

# cat /proc/interrupts
           CPU0
  0: 1924024 XT-PIC timer
  1: 1457 XT-PIC keyboard

 14: 12330 XT-PIC ide0
 15: 9 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0
ERR: 0

AND: cat /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/irq
-1

Any help someone could give would be appreciated
