Hello :)
Thank you for your response (and your patience)  I did some further
Googling, starting at the top of the SANE compatibility list, and I
ended up purchasing an Epson Perfection 2400 PHOTO Scanner.  I believe
that "complete" is better than "unsupported" :)  (At least for my
purposes :))
