Hi, this is better consumer scanner with 2400 DPI and 48bit colour. The =
box advertises both 2400 and 48 with LARGE text.
=20
My enthusiasm was quickly chilled, when I learned from HP support, that =
I cannot get 48 bit from windows only 24.
They told that the Mac can read 48 bit, but the only officially =
supported driver is the one for Windows. Get it?
Let me not entertain you with the ridiculous reasons HP support told me =
when I simply asked why is it a 48bit colour scanner then?....=20
=20
The real reason, as my colleague pointed out is that HP is very bad at =
writing drivers, and they just simply sell it with the old 24bit Windows =
drivers....
=20
Now I am upset enough to invest some effort myself in getting those =
bastard 48 bits out of the scanner for Linux.=20
=20
IF
1. No one has done it yet.
2. Someone can give me some practical advice on how to start with that.=20
a. Shall I try to snoop USB on a MAC? (I can get access to it)
b. Can anyone give me some information on the chipset?
=20
In general: what is your impression: can I expect much quality =
enhancement from a 48 bit consumer-grade scanner, or it should just be =
considered a marketing trick?
=20
=20
Regards,
=20
