This is the procedure I used to get my new Epson Perfection 3170 running
with iscan.
I am running FC3 with kernel 2.6.10-1.241_FC3 and sane-backends
1.0.15-1.4. I downloaded iscan-1.14.0-3.i386.rpm from
http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/dl_scan.html, and installed it with
the rpm command. I did not make any configuration changes, and executed
iscan in root mode. iscan found the scanner and did a preview scan of
of a postcard with text and colored pictures. I then executed iscan in
user mode and scanned a document with text and colored pictures to a

gain experience. My next
My only complaint so far is that, when I phoned Epson, they told me that
they provide no support for the scanner on Linux. They didn't even
mention that I could download the iscan rpm.
I have ordered an ADF for it.
