Does scanimage -L also show the scanner on the client?

Could you enable debugging on the client, i.e. do
export SANE_DEBUG_NET=255
and then run scanimage as done before. Please send us the output.

No. At least if you use versions of sane released in the last 4 years
this shouldn't be a problem.
