That was what I noticed also. I got one reply from Canon imaging,
that they would forward my request to some people knowing about
the scanners, but have not heard anything since. Also S&Q remains
silent (I suspect ALi M5623 has some connections to SQ113C but
I have no logs from a scanner containing that chip so I can't
be sure.)

Could you, Martin, please check the boot sequence of the Medion scanner.
Just start a snooper and plug in the scanner. Does the Medion driver
also upload a firmware update? If so, I would like to take a look at
that version, too. I have Canon version decompiled (manually,
which took me three months to do, about one hour per day that I
could spend on it) and I am now figuring out the command interface
parameters.
