yes- read the log, find the error and google for it :)

very near the end, there is 'sanei_access_lock failed:'. locking is a 
relatively new feature in sane, and not many backends use it. plustek is 
one (the only?). i do not know where the packagers of your sane install 
decided the lock directory should be, but you have to make sure your user 
account has perms to write to that dir, usually in /var somewhere.
