The scanner did actually respond. You can see it below the "IN" lines. Did you 
hear the scanner's optical unit move? Does the pixma backend work if you 
directly connect the device to your desktop or laptop computer? (I'm not 
familiar with the distro running on Baffalo Linkstation.)
