[sane-devel] Registered user "allan-guest" HP scanner interface troubles.

I really (that is REALLY) want to get off my Windows PC and use Linux 
exclusively.

My last obstacle is scanning.

I am using ubuntu 6.06, Xsane 0.97 and an HP 4470C scanner.

Despite the scanner not being listed as supported it works just fine.  
Except it will only scan 300 dpi gray scale.  The pull downs for both 
are not there.

Does anyone have a work around for this?  Or ...?
