I am trying to use my HP ScanJet 2300c with Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex.
I get

$ sane-find-scanner
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x0901 [hp scanjet scanner], chip=GL646_HP) at libusb:001:020

but when I try "scanimage", I get the motor stick: it vibrates for about thirty seconds, without moving the lamp, and then I must power down the scanner. Sometimes it seems to attempt a scan, but freezes at the end of the scan (making its awful noise).

What can I try? I read some old post (~2006) but nothing works. I downloaded the backend CVS version, fixing some of the c code of the genesis backend (changing the y-offset from -2 to 0 millimeters), but nothing.

(It's strange, on the sane website the hp2300c is said to be *completely* supported.)

Thank you in advance.
