we support SANE, package for scanning on Unix-based or Unix-like OSes.
TWAIN is a more 'Windowsy' version of the same idea, but is NOT
supported by the mailing list.

I dont know if the patches to install SANE on windows or cygwin still
work, because they are not often used.
