/etc/sane.d/dll.conf has: canon_dr.
/etc/same.d/canon_dr.conf has: scsi CANON DR

Here's what I got when I ran "SANE_DEBUG_CANON_DR=15 scanimage -L".
It looks to me as if the driver is there.  I cannot see if it is doing
much.
