sane-backends-1.0.21_2 installed from fresh ports
and follow the instructions

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

Probably because of these problems the program finds no Scanlite 
scanning devices and, accordingly, I can not use the scanner. Please 
help me to run the HP scanjet 5590 fine
