run the following, as root:

scanimage -L

if your scanner is not listed, run the following as root:

SANE_DEBUG_CANON=255 scanimage -L 2>canon.log

This will produce a 'canon.log' file in the current directory. Please
send that file to the list, compressed if it is larger than 100 KB.
