sane-devel at lists.alioth.debian.org.
greetings,

i have run into problems getting scanner working.

system;

  ]$ uname -a
  Linux argosyiayia.ciee.lab 2.6.18-274.12.1.el5 #1
   SMP Tue Nov 29 11:20:34 EST 2011
   i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

scanner;

  Plustek OpticPro 9630p

parallel port;

  EPP

as normal user;

  ]# scanimage --list-devices
  No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
  <snip>

after changing /etc/sand.d/plustek_pp.conf from;

   [direct]
   device 0x378

   #[direct]
   #device parport0

to;

   #[direct]
   #device parport0

   [direct]
   device 0x378

i get;

  ]# scanimage --list-devices
  device `plustek_pp:parport0' is a Plustek 9630P parallel port flatbed scanner

fails as user;

  ]# sane-find-scanner -p

as user, i can not start 'xsane', i get error message that device is not found.

as root, i can start 'xsane'. when i try a scan, i get error;

  error during read: error during device i/o.

only logging is in messages;

  Jan 3 22:31:56 argosyiayia kernel: ppdev: user-space parallel port driver

i have been thru configs and settings so many time now that if there was a
message 'hey, you need to change...', i probably would not see it.

i doubt that there are any list members using same scanner, but if there
are any still using or familiar with setting up a parallel port scanner
that can help, i would certainly appreciate some guidance.
