     Hello,

     there have been some issues regarding USB and scanners on recent 
kernels. It may be affected by being compiled with libusb_1.0 or the old 
libusb. Re-run the same command with sane usb debugging on:
export SANEI_USB=128
export SANE_DEBUG_UMAX1220U=10
scanimage -L

     I wouldn't be surprised if it fails when trying to setup endpoint.
