[sane-devel] when scanimage suddenly returns only white pages

Sorry I'm pretty new to SANE, but it's been working great for months, then at some point between a few weeks ago and today, my same-old scripted "scanimage" command is returning nothing but blank pages.
Can anyone suggest a direction for my bugfixing? I'm stumped. Thanks in advance.
THE COMMAND:
scanimage -d "genesys:libusb:002:003" --format=tiff --resolution=300 --mode=Color > scan.tiff
THE OUTPUT:
http://imgur.com/EVAj8zQ (see the streaks in there? any ideas?)
I'm on Arch Linux, and do the usual "pacman -Syu" to keep software up to date. I've rebooted, and run these diagnostics that all seem OK:
# sane-find-scanner
