Could it need firmware blob?
/etc/sane.d/epjitsu.conf says:
11 # These devices require a firmware file in order to function, which
must be
12 # extracted from the Fujitsu Windows driver. Presumably the Mac versions
13 # contain the firmware as well, but the author has no access such a
machine.
(see file for instructions)
Here is my "setup on wily" script for my ScanSnap S1100
sudo apt-get install sane-utils
sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/sane/epjitsu
cd /usr/share/sane/epjitsu
sudo wget
https://github.com/ckunte/scansnap-firmware/raw/master/1100_0B00.nal
# md5sum /usr/share/sane/epjitsu/1100_0B00.nal
# e851ff36457f899a6540f3d74dc0c9c6 /usr/share/sane/epjitsu/1100_0B00.nal
sudo sane-find-scanner
# found USB scanner (vendor=0x04c5 [FUJITSU], product=0x1200 [ScanSnap
S1100]) at libusb:004:005
scanimage -L
# device `epjitsu:libusb:004:005' is a FUJITSU ScanSnap S1100 scanner
