Hello Bernard,
I upgraded to 18.04 LTS. All my config files remain the same (From backups) but for some reason the scanner is now not accessible.
I can find the scanner via sane-find-scanner tool
"found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x1705 [hp scanjet scanner]) at libusb:001:004”
Since am using scannbd I then start scanned in the foreground with
scanbd -fd -c /etc/scanbd/scanbd.conf
Output is as below;
scanbd: debug on: level: 7
scanbd: dropping privs to uid saned
scanbd: dropping privs to gid scanner
scanbd: group scanner has member:
scanbd: saned
scanbd: tony
scanbd: drop privileges to gid: 123
scanbd: Running as effective gid 123
scanbd: drop privileges to uid: 120
scanbd: Running as effective uid 120
scanbd: dbus_init
scanbd: dbus match type='signal',interface='org.freedesktop.Hal.Manager'
scanbd: SANE_CONFIG_DIR not set
scanbd: sane version 1.0
scanbd: Scanning for local-only devices
scanbd: start_sane_threads
scanbd: no devices, not starting any polling thread
What is jumping out to me is the SANE_CONFIG_DIR not set line yet my /etc/scanbd/scanbd.conf has this line uncommented
saned_env = { "SANE_CONFIG_DIR=/etc/scanbd/sane.d" } # list of environment vars for saned
so why would scanbd say the directory is not set?
Regards
Tony
