Have you tried other resolutions, e.g. 300dpi?

The EPSON contact info should be in either the package information or in
the source tarball's configure.ac.  That's assuming it is still valid
and someone's paying attention to it.

To get debug output, use something like

  SANE_DEBUG_EPKOWA=HEX xsane

or use scanimage with a suitable option for the transparency support
(with that environment variable set as above).

Odd.  Last I worked on iscan, transparencies worked "Just Fine".  That
was an admittedly long time ago (8, 9 years ago?) but I believe iscan
hasn't changed much after that and hasn't seen any new releases in the
last 3 or 4 years.
