i'm not seeing this problem with 1.0.27+ genesys-gl847 stuff here with my
solaris 10 sparc hack of git ref e13b80fa with (minor) hacks all likely
mentioned in list emails. the lide 200 scanner is plugged into an ativa
usb hub with ext power which is plugged into an adaptec aua-5100b pci card
in the sun4u chassis.

res 2400 command line:
   $  ./frontend/scanimage -x215   -y27  --res=2400 --mode=gray \
   --calibration-file     $HOME/.sane/.default_canon-lide-200.cal \
   --format=png >  /tmp/fed_8879_2017_x12.png

will forward image on request, but here is what identify reports:
/tmp/fed_8879_2017_x24.png PNG 20304x2551 PseudoClass 256c 8-bit 22mb 8.4u 0:17

because this scanner at 2400 res runs so slowly (just this 1" scan took many
minutes) i did not even try with 4800, but will on request.

i then tried --mode=color and the image is also fine (huge, but fine).
identify reports:
/tmp/fed_8879_2017_x24_col.png PNG 20304x2551 DirectClass 8-bit 67mb 12.0u 0:22

ps -- note this sane-backend hack is based on sane-backends-master-e13b80fa
so it does not have the newest genesys c++ stuff. my solaris10 hacks are
those that stem from 1.0.27 release and rolled locally into the git e13b80fa
sources where applicable. -- ras
