Rolf:

      I see now how to specify resolution in the command $ scanimage.

     Also, if I select a preset area of 15 cm x 10 cm for Acquire preview,

and I have positioned the photo in Landscape orientation, the preview

image is in Landscape as expected.  It is just in selecting 4 in x 6 in 
that

there is a problem with the image being cut off.  It would be nice to have

preset choices of 4 in x 6 in and 6 in x 4 in.
