I have managed to reproduce this issue on my machine.
The output image is not expanded to twice the height, but an additional
block of white image is appended to the bottom of the scanned image
which is the same height as the scanned image, thus giving an image
twice as high.

I should also note that the machine that I have cannot do a preview. The
scan head just buzzes rather than moving down the platen.
That is probably a motor control issue with the resolution used for
preview scanning.

I have created an issue on GitLab for this issue, but I would strongly
suggest you create a GitLab account so that you can comment on and track
