One more attempt:
I tried sending the entire output of 'lsusb -v' because I wasn't sure whether there might be interactions with different parts of the USB subsystem, that were contributing to the problem.
But in case it's sufficient to send only the immediately-local part of the output that deals with the HP ScanJet Pro, that part follows:
