Hi

I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my PC and I try to get the scanner run with
xsane according the instructions of the wiki by ubuntuusers.de. There
may be several problems.

1. Following the instruction by the wiki firmware esfw52.bin is
installed. When I start xsane-Scan, there is following information
"Cannot start scanner. Fault when I/O process.

This was initially the main theme to be resolved.

2. Further I am now unsure if I use the correct firmware esfw52.bin. The
reason is misleading informations by sane-project:

According to http://www.sane-project.org/sane-backends.html#S-EPSON2 my
scanner is unsupported. Cited:

Perfection 3490 PHOTO USB 0x04b8/0x0122 Unsupported supported by the
epkowa backend plus non-free interpreter

According to http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-EPSON
firmware esfw51.bin is required and the status is good.

Cited:   Perfection 3490  PHOTO  USB   0x04b8/0x0122 Good Requires
firmware esfw51.bin

I did not find a source of the firmware esfw51.bin for my scanner.

What citation is correct? Is the second citation
http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-EPSON       the actual
version, is it correct and what firmware is required. If it is
esfw51.bin, please give a source for this software.

Please first answer the second question.

The first item may be more complex, but if you have an idea, I would
like to hear it.

Yours thank you

wthiel
