Thanks for this link. It makes me happy to see a styleguide in Debian.
It makes collaborative work so much easier.

Thanks for pushing. Of course, I'm up to it, and I'll do my best to make
an open design process.

It's somewhat of an automatic impulse that any project should have it's
own logo, but not always the best choice. Anyway, a strong "why" is the
foundation of everything. A logo or mascot reflects what is, makes it
visible and stronger.

Maybe we don't need a logo and/or identity of our own.
If this project is tied to DebConf16 as a gimmick, it might better be
included in or part of the identity of DebConf16. I see it as such.

In my mind, the swirl part of the DebConf16 logo is emphasizing the
element of evolution through many steps or with joint effort of many
individuals, and that fits well with the educational goal of ShowMeBox.
I think it's a good idea to use that element somehow. That will also
visually tie the project to Debian.

Here are some thought strings about what ShowMeBox is about:

Part of Debian
Part of DebConf16
Educational
For the youth
Inclusive
About statistics
About Big Data
About Open Data
A challenge
Societal involvement, possible impact
Local/Cape Town/ South Africa/ Southern African countries?
Involving geodata
About human activities
About teamwork
About tech

Please comment and add more if you think anything. Even if what you
think is banal.

A first thought: We could go with a box in some form (banal, right?) and
DebConf16 dotty swirl, using DebConf16 colours or hues. Or we could
think a little further. After all, it is not about the box, is it?
However, a box is also a great metaphor:

Thinking outside the box
Coming out - showing what you've got
Pandora's box - opening up to something possibly "dangerous"
...

Also, this is an exercise in "boxing" a version of Debian. :-)

If you don't thing you have any creative input, I'd still like comments
on whether we want this to be strongly tied to/ part of DebConf16 in
it's essence, or something more in it's own right. Even if it's said
earlier, repeat it. We need the strong "why".

Cheers,
Siri
