This question is on my ToDo list for a while:

I would like to include Upstream information in my packages, but not in a
redundant way. To my knowledge there are currently two places, where to put
such information:

1) debian/upstream [1][2]
2) debian/copyright [3]

While option 1 seems to be more specific, it points to a non-existent dep.
option 2 is less detailed, but points to an existent dep with status
'candidate'.

My personal preference would also go to a separate file debian/upstream,
because this information is not really releated to copyright.

Are there any common denominators, where to put upstream metadata?

Cheers,
Mathias
