It's a check to see if the function to get a word returns a valid
string so we don't get a segfault, along with a function to display
the error on-screen.

I put something simpler in just now, so we don't need the patch.

(I've put tons of these checks into tuxmath and tuxtype over the last
couple of years, although they just print the error to stderr instead
of graphically).
