If you have the time and are so inclined, feel free to do it.  I have a lot of other things 
going on right now and would eventually be able to help, but don’t feel the need to wait 
for me.

The steps for salvaging a package are at:

When an NMU is appropriate, it can be a good first step to fix immediate problems while 
waiting for a response from the maintainer or the salvage process to play out without a 
response.
