$ pristine-tar commit ../bedtools_2.24.0.orig.tar.gz v2.24.0
pristine-tar: committed bedtools_2.24.0.orig.tar.gz.delta to branch pristine-tar

I also added the remark, that you need to stay in the master branch to
let this work (my gut feeling told me to go to pristine-tar which has
the same output as above but no visible effect).

Package is building currently - seems I'm on track.

I'll let you know in case of further trouble.
