[Freedombox-discuss] More info after apt-get purge element-desktop, something in the matrix server?

Tried a few more things: deleted all the old configuration directories
under ~/.config, the latest called "Element". No difference, then did an
apt-get purge element-desktop and re-installed. Same behavior. Even
with the newly-upgraded version 1.7.28.

Considering that I now have installed Element on 2 other computers and
it works fine there, I'm wondering if the matrix server keeps some state
about this particular room and this particular computer and it thinks
there is no camera. Even after I "Join Conference" and I see "AUD" at
the top of the video field, clicking on the ^ next to the camera icon
(with the \ through it) it actually shows the video from the camera.

And then a message pops up saying "you have been disconnected" and to
check your network connection. But Element can connect to the server
just fine. All the text chat is there. This message reappears
regularly. The green square on the task bar doesn't have the red X on
it.

The cable modem is configured as a bridge, so no coturn needed. In any
case I'm local to the FreedomBox: connected via ethernet cables.

Is there some way to look into the matrix server on the FreedomBox?
Some way to manipulate or inspect the different rooms?
/var/log/matrix-synapse/homeserver.log doesn't have any errors, just
this type of line: (broken up as it is one very long line)

2021-05-19 19:49:43,818 - synapse.access.http.8008 - 295 - INFO - GET-300-

$ sudo /etc/init.d/matrix-synapse restart
[sudo] password for <admin user>:
Restarting matrix-synapse (via systemctl): matrix-synapse.service.

has no effect.

Any ideas about what I could try? Where to look for possible error
messages? Since another 2 computers work fine, something must have
happened on this one, that persists, probably during the upgrade where I
had to change the apt keys. But I'm at a loss to figure out what.

Thanks.

Augustine
