Termcap file for minicom embedded env.

The kernel is based on 2.6.27 and i have built a static minicom executable and added it as a part of a minimal kernel. When i run minicom i get a "No termcap entry for Linux" error. i have placed a termcap file under /etc copied from a source and use "-t mc" option. I still get the error. Any other steps that i am missing?
