sorry about the delay... interestingly, for me it fails, but
differently (yet to check for details):
in your case -- what happens if you add LD_PRELOAD like in below:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/afni/lib/lib3DEdge.so 3dSkullStrip -input ...
?
