I don't think this will be needed with the usbhid-ups. Why don't you just
try this out? Pull the mains plug from the UPS (it will now run on
batteries) and type

    # upsmon -c fsd

This will force an OB+LB situation (so that you don't have to wait until
the batteries are low). If both the UPS and the system are powered off,
you don't need this option.
