this is a low level error, Ie at kernel level, so NUT can't do much.

the communication module of the UPS seems stuck.
the only to restore it is to power off the UPS, wait 10 seconds, then
power it back.

I would suspect some EMI issue.
is it an external USB hub?
are there other devices on the same bus than the UPS?
what is the result of "grep EMI /var/log/messages"?
