there are lots of tools that are strongly associated with authentication
on debian.  a few more spring to mind:

 * PAM and its various modules
 * monkeysphere, msva-perl, xul-ext-monkeysphere
 * p11-kit

if the idea is to bring these under the team's umbrella, what would that
change offer to the current packagers and users of these tools?

what would the tradeoffs be for bringing them into team maintenance?
